A Query, a Haiku, and a Contest!

Want to know a secret?

It's my first time.

I heard there would be moments of awkwardness. Moments of excruciating pain. And moments of blissful joy.

And it's oh so true.

That's right. I'm finally riding the query-go-round and suddenly feel the urge to go back in time and send platters of cookies and chocolate to those that have gone before me. But in all honesty it hasn't been as horrible as my vivid imagination made it out to be. (psst . . . guys, these agents? They're all pretty nice. Even their form rejections are worded so kindly it's hard not to smile and just say 'oh, shucks'.)

There is of course the dramatic side of me that likes to express any emo-ish angst through, what else, words.

I give you the Querying Haiku:

One query, two query, three
Query more and more
Heart hits ceiling, then the floor

So as you can see, I'm totally being productive with all this waiting.

Now, onto the contest.

~*~CONTEST~*~

Leave your own query haiku in the comments--or leave a query limerick, or heck, leave a query song lyric--along with an email for me to contact you at. My lovely meese over at the highway will help me select one winner.
*Open until December 13th at midnight.

~*~PRIZE~*~

Winner will receive one book of their choice!
(Up to twenty dollars. Must be available from Amazon since I'll have to order it online).

That's it!

Contest closed. Congrats Jamie!!!!

There once was a land known as Query,
That kept its inhabitants teary.

By giving them hope,
That they'd climb that word rope,

Before showing them the dark side of dreary!

Fun contest...thanks for this!

Queasy (makes me more so than old cheese)
Unctuous (Dear most amazing agent ever)
Exasperating (Like I want to pull my leg hairs out one by one)
Raging (Just the way some of those rejections make me)
Yes! (Yes? Yes! YESSSS!!!!!!!)

Love your intro to this post, lol. :D

First, let me say that it's misty and rainy here, and that probably accounts for the dreary tone of this poem (or is it because I've already been working on my query and synopsis for three fracking days and I'm stuck?!?!?)

You launch your query bird
Into the wide blue sky
Only to see it fail and fall
A few weeks later.

You can't bear to look at it right away
But eventually you doctor it
And send it off again
Weighted with your dreams.

The worst times are when
It's left endlessly soaring,
Waiting for an an answer to it's call
That never comes.

So you craft another pair of wings
Strong enough to carry you with them
Over the walls blocking your way
To land in nurturing hands.

Okay, have I depressed everyone enough yet? I left it on a hopeful note, that counts for something doesn't it? And don't you hate those ones that you never hear back on?

Great contest idea, and it sounds like it's timely for all of us!

P.S. Reposting because I found a typo, aack!

I have the sick urge to write some kind of poem about Angelica's query bird becoming an agent's fried dinner.

Why I felt the urge to share that, I do not know.

Querying is like
Speed dating. In just one word:
Excruciating.

Kate, you mean that's why I never hear back on some--they ATE it??? Poor little query bird.

Though there are some days that I'd probably say, "I hope they choke on all the tiny bones!"

Wait, contest closed? I thought it was supposed to go until Dec. 13?

So Jamie won, yay! Congrats to her, but maybe next time you need more fanfare than a tiny line of text?
